    Romain Sion Amadou Dabitao

    • l’achat de caméras, de micros et d’autres matériels techniques afin de produire pour les jeunes un contenu de bonne qualité et valorisant ;
    • l’organisation d’un évènement intitulé « Banlieusard Valley », visant à rendre l’entrepreneuriat plus accessible dans les quartiers ;
    • la formation de plusieurs jeunes aux métiers des médias.

    Belle journée à tous,

    Salut à tous,

    Alexandre Mars & Romain Sion

    Belle journée à tous,

    Romain

✨ How to keep peace in neighborhoods deserted by the police? ✨

    Romain

✨ “At 17, she already had the spirit of a leader” ✨

Romain Sion Kenya Carolina For Kibera

Belle journée à tous et à bientôt,

  • Some of you have asked me the question: ✨ “Why write a book?” ✨

Some of you have asked me the question: ✨ “Why write a book?” ✨

    Romain

PS : Nous avons décidé du titre : Génération Impact – Et si dès maintenant on pouvait tous agir ? 🙂

Have you ever asked yourself the question: ✨ “What if we could all act now?” ✨

ONE Youth Ambassador Programme: 2020 Closing Ceremony

The Futures Factory, an NGO Led Shopping Center For Social Enterprises in Cambodia

✌️As you know, I travelled 🌏this summer🌞 to Cambodia 🇰🇭for a full immersion with Friends International, a leading social enterprise🚀 saving😀 lives and building⚒️ futures for the most marginalized children 👦👧in Southeast Asia. Their secret sauce is brilliant🌟: they build social enterprises to teach 👨‍🏫young people practical & soft skills in promising industries🍴💇‍♂️, before helping them find a job 💼across the country.

Friends International created multiple social enterprises: garages🏍️, restaurants🍴, hairdressers💇‍♂️, electrical services🌟, beauty salons❇️, apparel shops👚… They were a real success🌟 with the expat community. However, Friends International’s mission🚀 went further. They wanted to involve every stakeholder in their adventure, including locals. To meet their goals🎯, they had to create a customer experience equivalent to that of regular shopping🛍️ centers.

They took up the challenge and opened🔓 the Futures Factory 🛍️, a melting pot of creativity🖍️, social enterprise🚀 and community collaboration👋. Customers can find all the Friends International shops, services and restaurants 🍴, as well as traditional cafés☕ and eco-friendly, socially responsible shops🏪. The experience is stunning! 👍Families can enjoy concerts, activities and shopping while, at the same time, young people from the most marginalized communities are trained for promising jobs😀.

Friends International Is Convinced About The Benefits Of Tech and Aims At Being Fully Digitalized

👋After completing our mission 🚀at Friends International, which was to support 🤝the identification and implementation of a recruitment platform to ensure the matching 🔥/ tracking🔎 of hundreds of beneficiaries👦👧, we shared our report📄. We recommended the implementation of two integrated solutions🖥️: Oscar and Salesforce. What we really appreciated was their genuine desire to digitalize all their programs. We had interesting conversations about the implementation of these solutions, team training, the recruitment of their future IT lead / CTO💻, cost 👛optimization…

In general, we have noticed that many NGOs see digitalization as a powerful 💪way to create a sustainable 🚀competitive advantage (centralized data💿 collection, automated reports📄, real-time information ℹ️…). At the same time, the range of available solutions is growing📈. Companies like Salesforce have created specific packages for NGOs, startups are developing dedicated SaaS solutions, and some NGOs have partnered 🤲 to share the costs of developing a 🌠common tech solution…

  • Digitalization As A Powerful Tool To Make NGO’s Operations More Efficient

Digitalization As A Powerful Tool To Make NGO’s Operations More Efficient

👋Convincing a donor to🌠 support an 👨‍🏫educational program is much more concrete and attractive 🧲than asking them to finance 💰office rent or IT 💻software, which are just as important. Many NGOs are therefore forced to under-staff or✂️ cut certain key expenses, particularly administrative ones.

To our knowledge, 3 levers can help cover these costs:
    1) Securing unrestricted funds that are not tied to specific projects 📝(e.g. EPIC Foundation)
    2) Launching self-financing 🌀 activities to cover part of the budget
    3) Digitalization🖥️, by integrating a range of IT solutions into their activities

This summer☀️, our mission 🚀at Friends International is part of their digitalization strategy, which aims to set up a central 🎯information system. Who would not dream of collecting data💾 in real time or automating reports? For some NGOs, a single report can take up to a week to consolidate. Our goal 🚀is to help them identify and implement a recruitment👨‍💼👩‍💼 platform to ensure the matching / tracking of hundreds of beneficiaries of their Vocational Training Programs with companies seeking to recruit. The stakes are many: cost💰, integration, UX, security, internal resources, API… A few more days ☀️of work and we will provide them with our report.

Celestine Convinces Pregnant Mothers To Give Birth In Healthy Environments

👋How would you react, as a pregnant 🤰woman, if hospitals ⛑️turned you away when your baby 👶was about to arrive? It seems so far from what we experience in countries such as France 🇨🇵, where I am based. Once again, we are so lucky🤞. When I was in Kenya🇰🇪, I witnessed several situations where pregnant women had been turned away by up to 4 public hospitals🏥 before reaching the mission-driven Tabitha Clinic.

Maternal 🤱and child 🧒👧mortality are still major issues 💥in Kibera, the largest urban slum in Africa, located in the south of Nairobi, Kenya🇰🇪. Carolina for Kibera, an impactful🌠 NGO fighting🔥 to alleviate poverty in Kibera, created the Tabitha Clinic🏥⚕️. It provides quality, affordable 💰and accessible maternal and child health services. Every year, it supports thousands of mothers 🤱and children and gives hope to a community 🤩that has almost no access to public health services.

We had the chance to meet Celestine and her husband 👫on their way to a new ultrasound at the Tabitha Clinic. Celestine was expecting her 4th child 👶and she was worried😟. A few weeks earlier, she had been bleeding 🆎and could have lost her baby. At the Tabitha Clinic, she received proper care💉 from mission-driven 🚀doctors at a subsidized price 💰she could afford.

Celestine mentioned three main challenges⛰️ for pregnant women in Kibera: district hospitals are too expensive💰, it is complicated to reach the hospital by public transportation🚊 when the baby is coming, and security 💥is an issue, especially late at night🌌. This explains why many women still give birth at home, in dangerous⚠️ and extremely poor sanitary conditions. Celestine has now decided to join the Carolina for Kibera🌠 staff to share her experience and convince pregnant women 🤰to be followed at the Tabitha Clinic.

To pass the time, she reconnected with an old passion: crafting cuddly toys🧸. The baby👶 was finally born in perfect health ⚕️and Izabela decided to create a small business with the launch of a direct-to-consumer toy brand.

As a talented cook, Asmaa noticed that cooking was a powerful way to share her Moroccan culture and fight prejudices💪. That’s why she became an entrepreneur 🚀and created a catering company called “La Table d’Asmaa”. Do you remember the slogan “Impossible is nothing”📣? It sums up Asmaa’s mindset. When the Musée du Quai Branly asked her to cater for 500 guests, one of her very first events, she took up the challenge. Bob – CEO of the largest East African company fighting hard for transparency

    Hi everyone,👋

Do you know Bob? 👋Bob is the CEO👨‍⚖️ of Safaricom🛰️, the largest company🏨 in East Africa. I met Bob in Nairobi🇰🇪 to discuss purpose💫, transparency & corruption. He is not only one of the most successful🚀 leaders in Kenya, but also an inspiring activist capitalist. For him, corruption is currently rampant💥 &, in the corporate world, it sets a bad example. Some business leaders😠 do not have the right compass, and success is frequently measured by how many farms🏡 and how many cars🚗 you own… In many ways, bad examples have been set for the younger generations. One of his first actions💡 as CEO was to bring more transparency by disclosing his net assets and income💰. The first year, nobody followed except a close friend👬. Sometimes doing the right thing requires a lot of 💫moral courage💫, even if there is a personal cost. However, those moves create change, and change drives progress. A few years back, there was no law against bribery in the private sector in Kenya. After a hard fight💥 for regulatory⚖️ change, Bob proposed a law📝 which has now been enacted. He said: “As CEO of the wealthiest company in the country, if we wanted to play the stupid corruption game🎲, we could afford to bribe more than anyone else. But the minute🕐 we get into that game, every small business in this country will have a bad future. I have to stand firm! I have zero tolerance for corruption”.

👉As a role model for the new generation, Bob advocates the 3 Ps: 🌠PURPOSE, 🌠PEOPLE and 🌠PROFIT. “The first thing to do is find your purpose, then find the right people around you, and finally focus on profit, otherwise you will not be able to afford all of that.” Do you know people like Bob?

    👋Hi Everyone👋,

Have you met Peter? Peter is a young Kenyan 🇰🇪 leader with a BIG dream. He was born in the middle of Kibera, one of the largest African slum located in the south of Nairobi. Living in Kibera was his biggest challenge 💥 in life. He said: “You do not have dreams, you think you can not make it in life and you feel inferior”. It really affected him when he was young 🧒. One day, he had the chance to meet with an impact driven 🚀 non-profit organization called Carolina for Kibera. It changed his mentality 😀 and CFK made him believe in himself 💪. During school holidays, he joined mentorship 👨‍🏫 and leadership 🌠 programs where he had the opportunity to learn and to get motivated. After receiving a sponsorship 💰 to join high school education, he got accepted at the University of Nairobi 🎓 for a degree in civil engineering 🛠️. When we met, he was doing his 4thyear internship with the construction 👷 of a brand new bridge 🌉 in Kibera. When I asked him about his 🚀 lifetime dream 🚀, his answer was clear and straight forward: he wants to rebuild the infrastructure of the slum with decent homes 🏠 and to be a role model for the youth in Kibera. He wants them to believe they can make it not matter their background no matter they come from.
👉He said: 🌠🌠🌠“I truly believe when the youth succeed then the overall community will have succeeded.”🌠🌠🌠 I wonder: 👉How massive will be the impact of on an inspiring young leader like Peter on the overall community?

Anytime during the night 🌙, armed groups could come to his place and kill him with his family. He had to flee his country without his children and try to find a better place to live. From Turkey 🇹🇷 to Grece 🇬🇷 on a small pirogue ⛵ to his multiple attempts to cross the European border 🛃, it took him two years. One of the most difficult part of his life, he said. After one month and a half in France, he does not have papers 📝, he has to sleep from time to time in the streets 💤, he has not seen this family for two years and he does not have enough cash 💰 to go back to Mali. 👉I was speechless: he has almost nothing and he did not complain once during our dinner.

🌠🌠🌠One more time, people like Omar reminds us our incredible chance to live in a great country like France.🌠🌠

I wondered: if I was in his shoes, what would I do? Would I escape my country to find a better life for my family? I am convinced that discussing with refugees could remove many clichés that we could have on them.

Paul Duan — Data Science Genius Fighting against unemployment

    Hi Everyone👋,

I had the chance to meet with Paul Duan👨, the inspiring founder of Bayes Impact, the Y Combinator-backed NGO which builds citizen-led public services to create a fairer and inclusive future for our societies. By leveraging data science 💻, they achieved outstanding impacts: 800 police agencies 👮use their tool to reduce violence 💥 in the US 🇺🇲, 150 000 people helped to return to work ⚒️ in France 🇨🇵, -30% of microcredit 💰 fraud to Ghanaian 🇬🇭 entrepreneurs… From the city of Trappes in France where he was born to the University of Berkeley 🎓 in California, he started his career at the well know startup 🚀 Eventbrite as Data Scientist. In the Silicon Valley, he discovered that most of the world brightest data scientists were developing algorithms #️⃣ for privileged people. But what about technology 👨‍💻 at the service of the society for a fairer and more inclusive future? Paul got the courage to quit his job 5 years ago to create a non-profit startup 🚀. Paul is now leading a mission driven team 💪 of 8 people fully dedicated to build Citizen-led Public Services.

They have one motto: 🌠🌠👉”Empowering people at scale” ! 🌠🌠🤩

    Any thoughts?

“Hello”, So simple but also so important!

    Hi Everybody,

Do you know La Nuit de la solidarité? It’s a survey 📝launched by Anne Hidalgo to count and profile homeless people in Paris 🇨🇵 in order to improve social services. Last Thursday was the 2nd edition. Clément, one of my colleagues suggested our team to join as volunteers. Our mission: count and survey homeless people living in a delimited sector in the 8th district of Paris. That is where I met Amady, our team leader for the night🌠🌃. Amady is director of a social center 🏬for homeless people with 152 seats exclusively dedicated to women 👩. During three hours 🕖, we asked him many ❓questions ❓ about the social center organization, the main challenges, the impact of immigration… We finally came to the following question: 👉 what is the best way to help homeless people? His answer surprised me! It was clear and straight forward: it was not about money, food, clothes… It was about consideration and social contact. It starts with a simple and a true “Hello”. 😄👉 Hello, everybody can say it and everybody can do it.

Imagine if we all do it! 🤩🤩💪What do you think?

    See you soon! 👋🙋
